IRVINE, Calif. -- The field is set for the 2020 PacWest Women's Basketball Championships in Azusa, California, on March 5-7 with all six seeds locked into place as the top teams in the conference battle to be PacWest Champions and earn the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA West Regional.
Hawai`i Pacific earned the No. 1 seed at the PacWest Championships by winning their first 21 games of conference play. The Sharks enter as defending PacWest champions and will compete later this afternoon to become the first team in conference history to record a 22-0 season.
The pre-selected host Azusa Pacific will be the No. 2 seed. The reigning NCAA West Region champions are 17-4 in conference play and will wrap up the regular season against the No. 3 seed Concordia this evening in a game that will be televised on the ESPN app.
Concordia won three games in a row to earn the No. 3 seed at the tournament, which is the program's best finish to a regular season in the PacWest.The Eagles will meet Fresno Pacific in the first round, which is back in the touranment for the second year in a row. The Sunbirds went 13-9 in conference play and will tip off against Concordia in the tournament's first game at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The following game will feature No. 4 seed Point Loma and No. 5 seed Biola at 2:45 p.m. The two teams split the regular-season series. This is Biola's first trip to the PacWest Championships in its first year of postseason eligibility. Meanwhile, Point Loma has qualified for the PacWest Championship for the sixth year in a row.
The winner between Concordia and Fresno Pacific will face Azusa Pacific at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Following that, Hawai`i Pacific will face the winner between Point Loma and Biola at 2:45 p.m.
