ELLENSBURG, Wash.--A strong first quarter by No. 7 seed
Point Loma helped them to a halftime lead, but No. 2 seed Western Washington roared back for an eventual 74-60 win on Friday aftrernoon at Nicholson Arena in the NCAA West Region Women's Basketball Championships.
The Sea Lions wrap up a 20-win season at 21-9, while the Vikings will move on to Saturday's seminfinals at 25-7.
Point Loma roared out of the gate, leading by eight points less than three minutes into the game. The Sea Lions would hit 6 of 13 three-point attempts in the first half and led for 16:23 of the 20 minutes.
Izzy Navarro had 14 points and five assists at the break, nailing 4-of-6 trey attempts.
The Vikings did storm back to make it tight at 34-32 at intermisison, setting the stage for their second half momentum shift.
WWU would go on a 16-2 run to start the third quarter and never trailed again. They flipped the script in the first five minutes after the break and pushed their lead to 16 points (56-40) with two and half minutes left in the period. The Vikings would score 26 total points in the third to take command of the contest.
After their hot start, Point Loma would knock down just two treys in the second half.
Navarro led the Sea Lions with a stat line of 20 points, nine assists and five rebounds.
