IRVINE, Calif. – Academy of Art and Fresno Pacific both competed at the State Central Invitational on Saturday. It was the fourth outdoor meet that Fresno Pacific has already hosted this year, while for Academy of Art it was the first time that the entire team competed outdoors. Both teams earned two PacWest weekly awards with
Kyla Richardson and
Toby Bartlett from Fresno Pacific as well as
Marie-Jeanne Ourega and
Ajani Ince from Academy of Art taking home honors.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kyla Richardson, Fresno Pacific
Sr. – Walnut, Calif.
Richardson posted a provisional qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 11.85 seconds at the State Central Invitational. It is the second-best mark by a PacWest athlete in that race so far this year.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Marie-Jeanne Ourega, Academy of Art
Fr. – L’Hay-les-Roses, France
Ourega became the new PacWest leader in the long jump with a mark of 6.19 meters to finish in second place at the State Central Invitational. That mark is a provisional qualifier and was just four centimeters shy of an automatic qualifier and 35 centimeters better than the next best mark in NCAA Division II. In fact, it is the 12
th best mark in the nation across all divisions.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ajani Ince, Academy of Art
Fr. – Barbados
Ince competed in three races at the State Central Invitational and the freshman won all three. In the 100-meter dash, he won with a time of 11.02 seconds. Then in the 200-meter dash, he won in a field of six runners with a time of 22.22 seconds. Then he ran the final portion of the Urban Knights’ 4x100-meter relay team which finished with a time of 42.30 seconds. Ince is now the conference’s leader in the 200-meter dash.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Toby Bartlett, Fresno Pacific
Jr. – Wichita, Kansas
Bartlett competed in the pole vault at the State Central Invitational and won the event by clearing 4.45 meters. It is the second-best mark in the event in the PacWest this season behind his teammate
Brett Lombardi.
