IRVINE, Calif. – Fresno Pacific and Academy of Art each win two PacWest awards by posting new PacWest-bests over the weekend.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Bo Olsen, Fresno Pacific
Fr. – Clovis, Calif.
Olsen ran in the 800 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational and finished in a time of 1:51.77. That was a new personal best for Olsen and it is the best time in the PacWest so far this season. In each of the last two weeks, Olsen has run times in the 800 that will be good enough to break the record at the PacWest Championships coming up in three weeks.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Yacouba Gnacko, Academy of Art
Fr. – Paris, France
Gnacko became the second Urban Knight on the men’s team to post a provisional qualifier in the triple jump this season. He recorded a distance of 15.11 meters to win the triple jump at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational. That is his best mark in the event during the outdoor season after reaching 15.74 meters during the indoor season.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kyla Richardson, Fresno Pacific
Sr. – Walnut, Calif.
Richardson posted two new provisional qualifiers last week in the 200-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay, taking first place in both events at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. She finished the 200-meter dash in 23.22 seconds, which currently stands as the best time in the nation. Four runners for Fresno Pacific posted provisional qualifying marks in the event on Saturday. In the 4x100-meter relay, the Sunbirds’ relay team finished in a time of 45.53 seconds and that is the second-best time in the nation so far this year.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Marie-Jeanne Ourega, Academy of Art
Fr. – L’Hay-les-Roses, France
After being named the USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week, Ourega again put together an impressive performance in a few different events. She posted a provisional qualifier in the triple jump with a distance of 12.32 meters, which is the seventh-best mark in the country currently. She also improved her time in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 13.67 seconds, which is the second-best in NCAA Division II. Ourega also posted a provisional qualifier in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.67 seconds, which ranks fourth in NCAA Division II. Ourega now ranks in the top-10 in the nation in four different events.
