Two National Leaders Top List Of PacWest Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – Two PacWest athletes set new NCAA Division II season highs in track & field events to lead this week’s Athlete of the Week selections with Azusa Pacific winning two, while Fresno Pacific and Academy of Art each won one.
 
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Shareez Hamm, Academy of Art
Jr. – Gray, Ga.
Hamm set a new PacWest-best in the 400-meter hurdles last week at the 62nd Annual Mt. SAC Relays. He finished the race in 52.69 seconds, which a provisional qualifier. He also finished the 110-hurdles in 14.72 seconds, which is the third-best time in the PacWest this year and just 0.1 seconds shy of the conference leader.
 
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jermel Jones II, Azusa Pacific
So. – Los Angeles
Jones set a new PacWest-best in the long jump with the third-best jump in the nation so far this year as he recorded a mark of 7.75 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational. It was the second-best jump at the meet by a Division II athlete and just four centimeters shy of Jones’ personal best.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kyla Richardson, Fresno Pacific
Sr. – Walnut, Calif.
Richardson is now the national leader in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes after posting a time of 11.39 seconds in the 100 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. That was one of three first-place finishes she recorded that were all provisional qualifying marks. She also helped the Sunbirds finish the 4x100-meter relay in 45.68 seconds, and the 4x400 in 3:39.60. Fresno Pacific ranks No. 1 in the mile relay and third in the 4x100.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Nicole Warwick, Azusa Pacific
So. – Modesto, Calif.
Warwick became the national leader in the heptathlon after recording a score of 5552 in the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Warwick recorded a distance of 5.94 meters in the long jump to take sixth in that event. She also took fifth place in the javelin throw with a mark of 40.85 meters.
