Eagles and a Golden Eagle are Cross Country Award Winners

Jori Paradis is the Runner of the Year, PacWest champion Biola grabs three other awards

Jori Paradis, the Pacific West Conference champion, is the PacWest Runner of the Year, selected by the conference's coaches.

Conference title winner Biola claimed the other three special awards. Sean Henning is the Coach of the Year, Susi Bruennig is the Newcomer of the Year and Ella Voris is the Freshman of the Year.

The awards are chosen after the completion of the entire season, to also include regional and national championship results.

Concordia's Jori Paradis won the PacWest championship in Fresno with a time of 20:51 on the six kilometer course. She defeated Golden Eagle teammate Porshe Eismann by seven seconds, sprinting to the finish down the stretch. It was the Silverton, Oregon native's first PacWest crown after finishing seventh in 2022. She would go on to earn All-West Region honors with a tenth place finish in Monmouth, Oregon two weeks later with a clocking of 21:15.

Biola won the 2022 PacWest team title and were favored to win in 2023. They did not disappoint, using their depth to claim the championship in late October in Fresno with a team score of 40, edging Concorida (51). Head coach Sean Henning was named the Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Henning then led the Eagles to its highest finish in school history at the NCAA West Regional with a second place standing, only 11 points beind champion Western Washington. The Eagles would then go on to their best finish at the NCAA National Championships in 17th place, the only PacWest team to get an invitation to meet. Henning was also the Coach of the Year on the men's side last year, in 2016 and 2017 and in 2009 with California Baptist.

Eagle Susi Bruennig took the conference and region by storm late in the season to earn Newcomer of the Year. Earlier in the season, the German was in the upper echelon of Biola runners but never their top finisher. At the conference meet, she made big strides to earn First Team honors by crossing the line fourth, just behind teammate Bethany Mapes. She then had a massive breathrough at the regional championships in Monmouth with a second-place ribbon and a time of 20:33, the first time all year that she led the Eagle women. She continued her climb at the NCAA Championships in Missouri with an All-American placing of 28th (20:34), the third best time of among all west region runners.

Fellow Biola rookie Ella Voris was selected as the PacWest Freshman of the Year. Voris was just one spot and less than one second out of All-PacWest honors with a 22nd place at the conference meet, She was the top freshman finisher at the PacWest Championship with her six kilometer time of 22:23. She was an alternate on the loaded Biola squad at the regional and national meets. The San Clemente native improved her time by over a minute from her previous best earlier in the season at Pomona-Pitzer (23:36).
