2022-23 was a banner year academically for the Pacific West Conference and their 11 members.
1,822 PacWest student-athletes literally made the grade for the Academic All-PacWest Teams. That is the highest total in the history of the award, topping the 2021-22 tally of 1,793.
To qualify, student-athletes have to achieve at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average, completed at least two semesters at their institution and participated in regular season competition in one of the 15 PacWest sponsored sports.
The 1,822 Academic All-PacWest honorees is just the starting point when talking about the increased academic numbers this year.
There are an astounding 118 student-athletes that can list a grade point average of 4.0 in their undergrad or graduate studies. That is 37 more than in 2021-22 when the new record total was 81. For comparison, in 2021, in what was a record at the time, there were 64 GPA's of 4.0. In 2019, there were 39 PacWest student-athletes that had a perfect 4.0.
Biola set a new conference mark with 238 Academic All-PacWest members, which included 17 with a 4.0.
Concordia has 231 on the Academic All-PacWest team, meaning both the Eagles and Golden Eagles raced past the previous record holder
Azusa Pacific, who had 218 last year.
The
Point Loma women's track and field team had 39 student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or better, which is believed to be a new mark for a PacWest women's team.
Hawai`i Pacific had 33 members of its baseball team qualify, and
Biola had the same number from its men's track and field team. Both are thought to be men's teams records.

Point Loma, who won the PacWest Academic Achievement award this year with the second highest athletic department GPA in conference histroy at 3.55, had 183 Academic All-PacWest selections in their 11 sports, a school record for the Sea Lions.

Biola, which as mentioned above, set a new overall standard with 235, also broke or equalled their own school records in men's track and field (33), men's cross country (16), volleyball (13), women's basketball (11) and men's basketball (11).
