No. 14 Chaminade Continues Roll into PacWest Play

Silverswords remain unbeaten (11-0) and repeat as award winners. FPU's Elliott blocks a lot to gain Defender of the Week honors

Chaminade repeats the cycle of winning non-conference contests (11-0) and repeats as Team of the Week and Player of the Week (Ajack Malual). Fresno Pacific's Geneva Elliotts had 19 total blocks and claims Defender of the Week honors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chaminade's Ajack Malual, RS, 6-1, So., Rome, Italy                                                                    
Chaminade rightside hitter Ajack Malual was the Player of the Week seven days ago with outstanding numbers, and she earns the tag again this week after an even better week. The sophomore Italian had 53 kills in 12 sets of action (4.42 per set) and hit an accurate .339 during those matches. The Silverswords opened with five-set win over San Francisco State where Malual put down 15 balls, and then she had 19 kills in just three sets in a sweep of Northwest Nazarene--hitting .621. The 2022 Second Team All-PacWest pick finished the week with 19 kills in a 3-1 win over CS East Bay. 

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Fresno Pacific's Geneva Elliott, MB, 6-3, So., Tucson, Ariz.                                                
Sophomore middle blocker Geneva Elliott was a constant annoyance at the net for Fresno Pacific's opponents last weekend in four matches at a tournament in Grand Junction, Colo. Over the course of 15 sets, she had 19 total blocks which included a pair of solos. The Abilene Christian transfer had nine block assists in a four-set win over Cal Poly Humboldt, and coupled with eight kills totaled 12.5 points for the match. The 6-foot-3 middle has 28 block assists on the season, second in the PacWest. 
 
TEAM OF THE WEEK: The Chaminade Silverswords                                                                                                                
The PacWest Team of the Week is Chaminade, who won three more matches last week at the Cal Poly Pomona/Azusa Pacific Crossover Tournament in southern California. The Silverswords won their first five-set match of the season, pulling away from San Francisco State in the fifth, 15-6. Ajack Malual had 15 kills and Hula Crisostomo had 24 digs in the win over the Gators. In a 3-0 sweep of Northwest Nazarene, both of those players had three aces to go with 19 kills (Malual) and 15 digs (Crisostomo). In a four-set win over CS East Bay, Malual added 19 more kills, Mahala Ka`apuni had 16 and Crisostomo had 24 digs. Now 11-0 and off to their best start in program history, the 'Swords have moved up to No. 14 in the latest AVCA national poll--also their best listing in school history.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Dominican's Sophia Hall had five service aces off the bench in the Penguins 3-1 loss to Sonoma State...Annaka Jorgenson had 23 kills for Azusa Pacific during a 3-1 loss to Simon Fraser...Kirra Schulz had a double-double for Concordia against CS San Marcos with 16 kills and 10 digs...Kendyl Macaskill had seven block assists in APU's 3-1 win over Northwest Nazarene...Biola swept Stanislaus State, led on defense by Bri Bellfi's 17 digs...In APU's sweep of San Francisco State, Kyra Palmbush hit .688 with 11 kills and also had five block assists...Point Loma's Abigail Nua was in double-figure kill totals all week, totaling 60 in 15 sets (4.0 per set). She had a high of 17 against CS East Bay...Dominican's Miekayla Surnip had 19 digs in just three sets against CS Dominguez Hills...Chaminade is the only PacWest team to crack the AVCA/Taraflex Coaches Top 25 poll this week, at No. 14. Other west region teams include (10) CS San Bernardino, (13) Central Washington, (20) Cal Poly Pomona and (21) CS Los Angeles. Point Loma was among others receiving votes with 5.
