Abigail Nua, the AVCA and D2CCA National Volleyball Player of the Year, has been selected by the conference athletic directors as the Pacific West Conference Female Athlete of the Year.
The four-year Point Loma standout accomplished just about everything possible during her volleyball career, including helping to lead the Sea Lions to a NCAA West Region title and NCAA Final Four berth her senior season.
Nua is the first volleyball player to win the prestigious award since Shih Ting Chen (BYU Hawaii) did so in 2015. She is only the second Point Loma student-athlete to earn the trophy (Emma Thrapp, women's soccer, 2024).
The two-time PacWest Player of the Year also earned four consecutive All-PacWest First Team selections. Nua led the PacWest this fall in kills with 449 per set and points with 5.33 per game, despite missing nearly a month of the season with an injury. Both totals were by far the most in the conference, and ranked third and second respectively nationally.
The Colorado native also had the highest kill total on the year with 30 against West Texas A&M. She now totals 1,618 career kills, which ranks fourth in the PacWest career record book.
The 5-foot-10 outside hitter is a two-time First Team All-American (2024 and 2025), was honorable mention as a sophomore and was a Third Team selection as a freshman in 2022. Nua is a four-time First Team All-West Region honoree.
The Sea Lions finished the season 28-5 with their first Final Four appearance in school history. Nua had 21 kills in the semi's against Concordia-St. Paul and hit .321. Their West Region title was also a first in the Point Loma record books.
