Chaminade Wins Title Bout, Moves into PacWest Driver's Seat

Silverswords top Point Loma and two others in SoCal for Team of the Week. CUH's Inoue and DUC's Bocage share DOW, PLNU's Nua is POW.

Chaminade took out Point Loma in four sets in the most highly anticipated match of the season. The Silverswords went 3-0 in SoCal for Team of the Week, and Nanna Inoue shared Defender honors with Dominican's Rein Bocage. The Sea Lions' Abigail Nua had a double-double in all three of her matches for Player of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma's Abigail Nua, OH, 5-10, Jr., Lakewood, Colo.                        
Abigail Nua and her Point Loma team may have dropped the showdown with Chaminade, but the junior outside hitter put up consistent numbers across the board. The two-time All-American averaged 4.64 kills per set with 52 total in three matches, and also had 2.9 digs per set (32 total), with a double-double in each match. The Colorado native had 21 kills against Jessup, her second highest total of the season, hitting .356. The 2022 PacWest Freshman of the Year had 16 kills against Chaminade and 14 versus Hawaii Hilo. 

CO-DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Chaminade's Nanna Inoue, DS-L, 5-2, Grad., Kula, Maui, Hawaii    
Chaminade's Nanna Inoue had a season-high 26 digs in a win over Concordia and added 20 more in the big win over Point Loma. She averaged 5.27 digs per set and also added eight assists and six service aces. The Maui native has put together double-digit digs in 11 of her last 13 matches including a current seven-match streak. Five of them have been 20 or more.

CO-DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Dominican's Rein Bocage, L, 5-6, Sr., Tracy, Calif.                            
Dominican's Rein Bocage continued her solid season in the backcourt with a pair of 21-dig performances last week. In two four-set wins for the Penguins over Academy of Art and Menlo, the former Holy Names and Stanislaus libero averaged 5.25 digs per set, and also had seven kills and 13 assists. On the season, Bocage leads the PacWest in total digs (419) and digs per set (4.93).

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Chaminade Silverswords                                                                                    
Chaminade is the team of the week after going 3-0 on the road through southern California, including winning a battle of the unbeatens at Point Loma. They kicked off the roadie by giving up the first set to Concordia, but then reeled off three straight behind Mahala Ka`apuni's 21 kills. On Wednesday they swept Azusa Pacific, with Anna Stucchi hitting a sizzling .917 for 11 kills. Against the Sea Lions, the 'Swords hit .317 as a team, with Stucchi hitting .522 (12 kills) and Letzia Cammillucci converting at a .471 clip for 17 kills. Chaminade improved to 18-0 in the PacWest (Point Loma is now 17-1), in the first match-up of unbeatens this late in the season since 2012.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Chaminade lists No. 7 in today's national AVCA poll, with Point Loma at 13...In last week's first official NCAA West Region poll, Chaminade was No. 3 and Point Loma was 4. The next ranking comes out this Wednesday...In the PacWest standings, after Chaminade (18-0) and Point Loma (17-1), there is a tight pack of teams from three through eight. Fresno Pacific is in third (12-7), Azusa Pacific is next (10-7), Hawaii Hilo and Concordia are 11-8, Jessup is 9-8 and Westmont is 9-9...Madalyn Miller had a big week for Jessup with 52 total kills in three matches (4.7 per set). She had 21 against Vanguard and 18 against Point Loma...Sophia Baugh put up 50 assists in Point Loma's win over Jessup...Hawaii Hilo's Tani Hoke surpassed the 2,000 career dig total, and now has 2,012. That is sixth on the PacWest's all-time list...Point Loma's Anna Massari push her totals to 406 for total blocks and 342 for block assists. Both totals are third all-time in the conference.

THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: It's the final week of the regular season, with 14 matches on the schedule. Chaminade can clinch no worse than a tie by winning one of their two matches against Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii Hilo.
