APU's Kampman Walczak Earns NCAA All-American honors

Cougar runner finishes 12th at national championships. Biola earns 26th place finish and FPU's Julissa Avila is the third PacWest runner to cross the finish line.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Azusa Pacific's Jessica Kampman Walczak gradually moved up the field and ultimately finished 12th at the NCAA National Women's Cross Country Championship on a cool, drizzly day in Sacramento.

Kampman Walczak covered the 6 kilometer course in 20:51 at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. Her 12th place crossing was the top finish for a Pacific West Conference runner since fellow APU runner Eileen Stressling was tenth in 2018.

The senior grad transfer from Dordt College, where she was an NAIA All-American, was the lone runner today for the Cougars. Also qualifying as an individual was Fresno Pacific's Julissa Avila, who finished in 115th place in a field of 262 runners with a time of 22:17.

PacWest team representative Biola landed in 26th place (644 points) out of the 34 qualifying teams. Lynette Ruiz was the top Eagle runner in 74th place (21:50), followed by Aislin Taylor (22:41), Karis Brown (22:55), Hailey Wurzbach (22:58) and Jaina King (23:01).

The race was run on a flat grass course (muddy) in 58 degree weather.

Lauren Kiley of Grand Valley State (MI) was the individual winner in 20:28. University of Alaska's Kendall Kramer was second in 20:30. Adams State (CO) won the team title with ease (38 points), followed by West Texas A&M (96) and Colorado State-Pueblo (158). The top West Region teams were Western Washington in 11th (379), Alasak in 13th (393), and Chico State in 15th (410).
