The 2024-25 PacWest schedule tipped off last week and when all was said and done, Biola and Point Loma emerged with 2-0 records. Meanwhile, two players familiar with awards added two more. Westmont's Adrian McIntyre averaged 25 points a game and totaled nine assists and six steals for Player of the Week, and Hawai`i Hilo's Nadjrick Peat had eight blocked shots, 20 rebounds and 24 points for Defender of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Westmont's Adrian McIntyre, G, Sr., 6-3, 185, Sylmar, Calif.
Westmont's Adrian McIntyre had another stat filled week in games against Fresno Pacific and Jessup. Against the Sunbirds, the senior guard had 22 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals as the Warriors rolled, 79-62. In a heartbreaking last second loss to Jessup, McIntyre had 28 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. It was the second Player of the Week award for the second-year Warrior, who leads the PacWest in points per game (26.3), is third in field goal percentage (.556) and free throw percentage (.891) and is fourth in assists (4.4).
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo's Nadjrick Peat, F/C, Sr., 6-11, 220, Alexandria, Jamaica
Hawai`i Hilo's Nadjrick Peat blocked and rebounded his way to the Defender of the Week award. In a pair of road games on Oahu, the 6-foot-11 post totaled eight blocked shots, 20 rebounds and 24 points. In a loss to Hawai`i Pacific, the Jamaican had seven boards, two blocked shots and 14 points, and in a win over Chaminade he swatted six Silversword shots, had 13 rebounds and a double-double 10 points. The six blocks ties his best (and Hilo's program high), and gives him 3.0 blocks per game--twice as much as anyone else in the conference. Peat also leads the PacWest in rebounds per game (9.4).
TEAM(S) OF THE WEEK: Biola Eagles and Point Loma Sea Lions
Biola and
Point Loma opened up PacWest play with a pair of wins to share the early conference lead. The Eagles defeated Concordia (81-75) and Fresno Pacific (81-65) to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Erik Howlin led a balanced
Biola attack with 20 points and seven rebounds, supplemented by
Davian Brown's 17 points, nine boards and four assists.
Casey Cappo added 16 points and six board. The Eagles then beat the Sunbirds on the road with four players in double figures, paced by Howlin's 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. The
Sea Lions opened a bay area road trip with a 69-56 win over Dominican, with
Luke Haupt putting up 15 points, and then they won an early PacWest showdown between the two co-champs from last year, topping Academy of Art 58-53. The
Paulsen brothers provided the offense with
Tyce scoring 16 and
Zack adding 12 points. Point Loma improved to 9-2 on the season with the wins.
THIS WEEK: Speaking of the teams of the week (see above), Point Loma and Biola will square off this week on Wednesday in San Diego. Azusa Pacific travels the short distance to Concordia on Wednesday, while Fresno Pacific treks to Academy of Art on Friday. PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Two PacWest teams also opened up without a loss, with
Hawai`i Pacific and
Jessup winning the lone games on their conference schedules. HPU won big over Hawai`i Hilo at home (88-71) behind
Sherman Brashear's 25 points. Jessup clipped Westmont (63-62), with
Ja`maris Blackmon pouring in 23 points and
Anthony Enoh adding double-double numbers of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Cayden McDaniel scored the game winner with one second left.
Jarrett Bryant had a monster night on the boards with 16...
Academy of Art's Rodney Munson was a strong Player of the Week candidate with 47 points and 10 rebounds over a split of two games. He had 26 points in the win over Vanguard...Ditto for
Dominican's Jaayden Bush with 36 points, ten rebounds and six steals...
Menlo's Landon Seaman continues to put up big numbers, totaling 43 points and 20 rebounds in two games...
Jaden Henderson had 27 points and 10 boards for
Concordia in their narrow loss to Biola...
Azusa Pacific had a pair of 20-point scorers in their 74-64 win over Menlo, in
Ethan Speaker and
Jordan Hansen...
Dominican upended the Cougars two nights later (61-58) with
Darius Best scoring 16..
.Vanguard edged Menlo 77-74 in a battle of new PacWest teams.
Leonard Turner had 17 for the Lions and
Anthony Tello had 15 points, six steals, and added the clinching free throws in the final minute...Two nights after falling to Hawaii Pacific,
Hawaii Hilo bounced back with a 82-63 win over Chaminade.
Jake Kowakowski hit five three-pointers for 17 points and
Nadjrick Peat had a double-double of 10 points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots.
