UPDATED BRACKET and CHAMPIONSHIP CENTER

SURPRISE, Ariz.—
The second-day women’s results at the 2024 Pacific West Conference Championships looked a lot like the men’s with the top three seeds advancing and the No. 4-5 match holding most of the drama

No. 5 Academy of Art rushed out to a 3-0 lead in last quarterfinal match of the day but No. 4 Hawai`i Pacific roared back to 3-2. With two matches in the third set that could have gone either way, the Urban Knights broke through on court six when Paulina Alvarez bested Lynn Kader, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
That puts ART U into Friday’s semifinals against No. 1 seed Point Loma, with No. 2 Azusa Pacific set to square off with No. 3 Concordia. Friday’s matches begin at 1 pm Pacific time for the women.

The Sea Lions were the first team off the court in afternoon quarterfinal matches, topping the Penguins 4-0. Point Loma won in doubles on courts two and three by 6-1 and 6-2 scores for the first team point, then followed with singles victories from Arianna Audelo on court three (6-0, 6-2), Quin Brady on four (6-2, 6-1) and Anna Pallencade on court five (6-4, 6-1). The #1 seed Sea Lions will face the #5 seed Academy of Art in the semifinals. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two squad.

#2 AZUSA PACIFIC 4, #7 HAWAI`I HILO 2
The Cougars advance into the semifinals but it wasn’t easy against the upset-minded Vulcans. APU gained the doubles point pretty quickly with 6-2 and 6-1 scores, and the PacWest Player of the Year Madison Kane rolled on court one to a 6-0, 6-3 win to make it 2-0. Hilo got on the board with a win on court six with Julia Barden’s 6-1, 6-2 victory, but the Cougars countered with Miruna Tudor’s 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4. Down 3-1, Hilo’s Hikari Osaka won a battle at No. 3 defeating Vina Bautista, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 to draw UHH within one point. With the last two matches in the third set, the Cougars clinched on court two with Julia Jordan’s 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 war with Nanami Okamoto. APU, now 19-1 on the season, will face Concordia for the third time this season, where the Cougars have won both meetings.

#3 CONCORDIA 4, #6 BIOLA 1
In a match that was much closer than the score would indicate, Concordia held on for a 4-1 win to advance to the semifinals. The Golden Eagles won the doubles point, but Biola tied in singles at No. 1 when Colbeyshae Emery topped Sophie Rachor, 6-3, 6-4. Tiffany Carrillo gave the lead back to CUI with a 6-3, 6-0 on court three, but the next three matches either went into the third set or were heading that way. CUI’s Emilie Lugon-Moulin won one of those three-setters on court two over Lilly McNeill, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and then Jessica Bear clinched with a 6-2, 7-6 victory on court four over Brooke Fager. Two other three-set matches went unfinished.

#5 ACADEMY OF ART 4, #4 HAWAII PACIFIC 2
The wildest match of the day featured Academy of Art bursting out to a 3-0 lead only to see the Sharks bite back. The Urban Knights won the doubles points and captured singles matches on court one with Amelija Supulniece (6-1, 6-3) and court three via Maria Vittoria Casucci (6-4, 6-1). But with a 3-0 lead, things got dicey after that. Jessica Plazas was close to clinching on court two, but HPU’s Isabel Heupgen roared back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win. The other three courts were in the third set, with Leonie Mueller pulling out a win for HPU on court five (6-3, 3-6, 6-1) over Viktoria Leth to cut the Urban Knight lead to 3-2. With Jayanne Palma (ART U) and Estelle Najean (HPU) tied at 4-4 in the third set, the Urban Knights clinched on court six when Paulina Alvarez outlasted Lynn Kader, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

CONSOLATION; FRESNO PACIFIC 4, STANISLAUS STATE 1
The Sunbirds wrapped up their season at 6-14 with a win over the Warriors, 4-1. FPU won the doubles point and then captured singles matches on court one (Nayuma Subba), four three (Audrey Oullet) and court four (Audrey Ouellet). Stanislaus State won on court six behind Abbigail Mulick.

CONSOLATION: MSU DENVER 4, COLORADO MESA 2
The Roadrunners, who had already beaten the Mavericks twice this month in Colorado, made it three in a row with a consolation win to end their seasons. This one went almost three hours and began with CMU winning the doubles point. But MSUD battled back with wins from Hanna Haber, Courtenay Leonard, Monica Guarin and the clincher on court three with Kambra Roles. The Roadrunners end their season at 11-12 and the Mavericks wrapped up 2024 at 12-16.
