For the first time, Point Loma Nazarene University has won back-to-back Pacific West Conference Academic Achievement Awards.
The Sea Lions, also winners in 2022-23, took the crown this year with an overall athletic department grade point average of 3.52. That is the third highest GPA in the history of the Academic Achievement award, just behind their 3.55 total from last year and Dominican's all-time mark of 3.62 in 2020-21.
Dominican remains the all-time leader by a large margin with 11 Academic Achievement awards. Point Loma now has three, the only PacWest institution other than BYU Hawaii (two) to win more than one.
The results take into account every student-athlete's cummulative grade point average for the team and sport that they competed in 2023-24.
Just behind Point Loma in overall GPA was Dominican (3.493), Chaminade (3.47), Biola (3.448), Concordia (3.345), Hawai`i Pacific (3.34), Azusa Pacific.3.32, Hawai`i Hilo (3.284), Fresno Pacific (3.267), and Westmont (3.243).
Gender specific, Point Loma also had the top GPA for women's sports at 3.56, followed very closely by Biola (3.54) and Chaminade (3.51). In men's sports, the Sea Lions topped the field at 3.44, followed by Chaminade at 3.42 and Biola with 3.347.
