Vanguard is the Team of the Week again after topping fellow title contender Azusa Pacific and playoff potential squad Concordia. The Lions have now won six straight. Izzy Navarro had another all-round stat sheet as Point Loma swept Hawaii, and Lisa Kiefer’s defense helped lead Westmont to two more wins.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma’s Izzy Navarro, G, Jr., 5-8, Tijuana, Mexico
Point Loma’s Izzy Navarro quarterbacked her Sea Lion squad to three more wins, all in Hawaii. The victories clinched a PacWest tournament spot for the hosts as they improved to 19-5 overall and to 15-3 in conference play, moving into first place. Navarro had 19 assists in the trio of games (6.3 per game), 13 steals (4.3) and 35 points (11.7) to pick up her second Player of the Week award this year and fourth in her career (the other two were at Concordia). She had seven steals against Chaminade and six more against Hilo. The two-time All-PacWest selection leads the league by a large margin in assists per game (6.7) and steals (4.0).
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Westmont’s Lisa Kiefer, F, Sr., 6-2, Marburg, Germany
Westmont’s Lisa Kiefer earned her eighth PacWest Defender of the Week award, second all-time in conference history. This week, she helped lead the Warriors to wins over Dominican and Concordia, both playoff contenders. The German totaled 24 rebounds in two games, ten steals and four blocked shots as Westmont improved to 18-6 on the season and 14-4 in conference play, clinching a PacWest tournament berth. Kiefer also averaged nine points in the two games and 4.5 assists.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Vanguard is the Team of the Week after going 2-0 again and recording their fifth and sixth straight wins. They defeated Azusa Pacific 69-56 in a battle of title contenders, led by
Kaylee Byon’s all-around game of 15 points, six rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
Shayla O’Neil turned in 14 points off the bench. In the 68-63 victory over Concordia,
Emma Schaaf dropped in 20 points with seven rebounds, four blocks and two steals. The Lions led 45-16 at the half and led by as many as 29 but had to hold off the Golden Eagles down the final minutes. The Lions clinched a PacWest tournament berth in their first year of eligibility, improving to 14-3 in conference play and 18-4 overall.
ROAD TO SAN DIEGO: With a razor thin margin for error, only 1.5 games separate the top four teams in the conference. The top six teams have a bit more of a cushion in fighting for the top six spots, which at the end of the month qualify for the PacWest Championships, March 5-7 in San Diego. Kyra Tanabe had 31 points and six rebounds during a 77-69 win over Fresno Pacific. Tanabe also had 13 points and five steals in a loss to Point Loma, giving her 44 points for the week. She nailed 17 of 18 free throw attempts in the two games…In
