PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hawaii Pacific’s Kayleigh Castillo, Fresh., Germany
Hawaii Pacific’s Kayleigh Castillo went 5-0 in singles last week and 5-0 in doubles to help the Sharks go 4-1 overall. She won all five of her matches in singles on court three, with the closest being a 6-4, 6-4 verdict over
Stanislaus State’s Katrine Damjaer. In doubles, the German teamed with
Kaia Spery on court three to easily win all five they played. After a tough start where she lost her first five matches in a Sharks uniform, she has now won seven of her last eight.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Stanislaus State Warriors
Stanislaus State won for the first time in school history against Hawaii Pacific, topping the Sharks 4-3 on March 11 in Turlock. The Warriors lost the doubles point and dropped singles matches on courts one and three, but earned victories from
Abbigail Mullick, Parker Orlando, Mariah White, and then clinched on court six with
Emi Mikami’s comeback victory by the score of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6. Stanislaus State also defeated Dominican and Chaminade on the week, with their only loss coming to Division I Illinois State.
ITA NATIONAL RANKINGS: Azusa Pacific is ranked No. 15 in the March 11 ITA national poll, with
Point Loma listed at No. 17. The doubles duo of
Azusa Pacific’s Karola Suviste and
Stina Larsson is No. 8, with HPU’s
Evi Roobol and
Annika Harkovirta listed tenth.
