Stanislaus pulled off a stunner with a 4-3 win over Hawaii Pacific to earn Team of the Week. But HPU’s Kayleigh Castillo gets the nod for Player of the Week after a 5-0 singles and doubles roll to help the Sharks go 4-1.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hawaii Pacific’s Kayleigh Castillo, Fresh., Germany                                   
Hawaii Pacific’s Kayleigh Castillo went 5-0 in singles last week and 5-0 in doubles to help the Sharks go 4-1 overall. She won all five of her matches in singles on court three, with the closest being a 6-4, 6-4 verdict over Stanislaus State’s Katrine Damjaer. In doubles, the German teamed with Kaia Spery on court three to easily win all five they played. After a tough start where she lost her first five matches in a Sharks uniform, she has now won seven of her last eight.

Stanislaus State won for the first time in school history against Hawaii Pacific, topping the Sharks 4-3 on March 11 in Turlock. The Warriors lost the doubles point and dropped singles matches on courts one and three, but earned victories from Abbigail Mullick, Parker Orlando, Mariah White, and then clinched on court six with Emi Mikami’s comeback victory by the score of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6. Stanislaus State also defeated Dominican and Chaminade on the week, with their only loss coming to Division I Illinois State.

ITA NATIONAL RANKINGS: Azusa Pacific is ranked No. 15 in the March 11 ITA national poll, with Point Loma listed at No. 17. The doubles duo of Azusa Pacific’s Karola Suviste and Stina Larsson is No. 8, with HPU’s Evi Roobol and Annika Harkovirta listed tenth. PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Biola went 3-0 with wins over Colorado Mesa, Western New Mexico and Fresno Pacific…Point Loma was also unblemished in three matches with victories over Stanton, Colgate and Concordia…Azusa Pacific won both of their matches, topping Fresno Pacific and Western New Mexico…Menlo has won six of their last seven matches to improve to 7-3 on the season…Fresno Pacific’s Yume Ueoku went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles last week for the Sunbirds…Although overall records are not necessarily considered for PacWest tournament seeding purposes, here are the marks for the teams with .500 or better records—Azusa Pacific (12-2), Point Loma (8-2), Hawaii Pacific (11-3), Biola (8-3), Menlo (7-3), Westmont (7-6), Dominican (5-5) and Fresno Pacific (4-4).

THIS WEEK: Azusa Pacific will continue a hosting role with Colorado Mesa and Menlo playing on their courts, while the Cougars host Mesa as well.. Hawaii Hilo begins a road trip through Texas, while Point Loma hosts CSU Los Angeles on Wednesday.
