SURPRISE, Ariz.—Fresno Pacific captured two Pacific West Conference women’s tennis special awards
, Menlo and
Point Loma shared another, as did
Azusa Pacific and
Hawaii Pacific.
APU’s
Mark Bohren and HPU’s
Chelsea Patton were selected by their fellow leaders as Co-Coaches of the Year. Also sharing a plaque are the Newcomers of the Year,
Ombeline Robilliart (Menlo) and
Perla Conde Vendrell (Point Loma). The Sunbirds were well represented by Player of the Year
Yume Ueoku and Freshman of the Year
Fabiana Gonzalez.
The announcement was made on the eve of the PacWest Championships, which begin tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Surprise (AZ) Tennis and Raquet Center.
Yume Ueoku had a stellar season as Fresno Pacific’s No. 1 player, going 16-1 in dual matches (18-2 overall record). All of her conference wins were in straight sets this season, her only loss coming against APU’s Stina Larsson. She was also 13-1 in doubles play and the FPU duo of Ueoku and Fabiana Gonzalez has been ranked as high as 31
st nationally.
Fabiana Gonzalez is the Freshman of the Year and also earned First Team All-PacWest honors. The Utah native had a 12-3 dual match record (17-4 for the year) in singles, ranked as high as #2 in the Region and #20 Nationally. She reached the finals of the Fall ITA West Region championship. She is 13-1 overall in doubles record with partner Yume Ueoku.
Sharing the Newcomer of the Year honors are
Ombeline Robilliart of Menlo and Point Loma’s
Perla Conde Vendrell. Robilliart, a transfer from St. Thomas Aquinas, was 13-1 in singles across her team’s #2-6 positions. She broke the program’s single-season wins record (13), all in straight sets with no tiebreakers. The French woman won her first eight singles matches of the spring including against NCAA DI UC Davis.
Vendrell, a transfer from Emporia State, is 14-4 in singles (1-0 at No. 3, 13-4 at No. 4), 14-1 at No. 2 doubles and is currently riding a 12-match winning streak. The France native reached the Round of 16 in singles at the ITA West Regional. The junior was a Second Team All-MIAA selection last year at Emporia State.
Head Coach
Mark Bohren is the Co-Coach of the Year after leading Azusa Pacific to another top seed position coming into the PacWest tournament. The Cougars are 20-2 on the season and come to Arizona on a 14-match win streak. Their only D2 loss was to Hawaii Pacific. Bohren, in his 29th year as head coach at APU, is now 472-192 in his career with the APU women. He was also named the 2026 PacWest Men's Co-Coach of the Year.
HPU’s
Chelsea Patton is the Co-Coach of the Year in her first campaign as the Sharks leader. Hawaii Pacific and Patton climbed to a high of #11 in the nation and a current #26 national ranking. In her first year as head coach, she stands with a record of 11-2 against PacWest team and a regular season mark of 14-2. Previously an assistant at HPU, Patton has also been a head coach at Whitman College (Wash.).
Ueoku and Gonzalez were also First Team singles selections, along with Azusa Pacific’s
Stina Larsson and
Karola Suviste, Point Loma’s
Alina Kupfer and Hawaii Pacific’s
Evi Roobol and
Tereza Noah. All First-Team selections were previous honorees, with the exception of the freshman Gonzalez.
Larsson and Suviste, along with Ueoku and Gonzalez, were also First Team doubles selections. Roobol also fits that category with teammate
Annika Hakovirta.
