Michael Morini, who most recently worked at Saint Mary’s College of California as the Director of Athletics Facilities and Events, has been named the Assistant Commissioner for Championships of the Pacific West Conference.
Morini will begin his work with the PacWest today, Thursday, June 25, announced by commissioner
Brad Jones.
As the Assistant Commissioner for Championships, Morini will oversee the planning and administration of PacWest Conference championships, provide leadership for assigned sport committees and sport administration responsibilities, and manage the execution of conference championship and postseason events.
“Throughout his career, Michael has demonstrated a commitment to service, collaboration, and excellence in collegiate athletics,” Jones said. “We are excited to welcome him to the PacWest Conference office and look forward to the leadership, innovation, and professionalism he will contribute to the PacWest Conference as a whole.”
Most recently, Morini served as Director of Events and Facilities at Saint Mary’s College, where he oversaw athletic events operations and facilities for the Gaels’ NCAA Division I athletics program.
"I am honored to join the PacWest Conference and to serve an organization with such a strong commitment to student-athlete success, academic excellence, and competitive integrity,” Morini said. “I am grateful to Commissioner Jones for his confidence in me and for the opportunity to contribute to the conference's continued growth and impact.”
Prior to his recent role at St. Mary's, Morini spent six years as Associate Athletics Director for Operations and Finance at Academy of Art University. There he managed team travel, championship logistics, departmental budgeting, NCAA financial reporting, and operational planning. He was the department advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He oversaw the ART U golf fundraiser, raising over $500,000 from alumni and corporate partners.
Before his most recent stint with St. Mary’s and ART U, Morini served as the Graduate Student Coordinator for External Relations Interns at Saint Mary’s while studying to receive his Master of Arts in Kinesiology, Sports and Recreation Management in 2019.
While working to receive his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at SMC, he worked for the Oakland Athletics as a Guest Services Area Manager and interned for UC Berkeley in Marketing, Communications, and Business. Michael and his wife Cori currently reside in San Francisco.
“I also want to thank Piper Brewster and Russ Blunck for their support throughout this process,” Morini added. “I look forward to working alongside our member institutions and conference staff to build on the PacWest's tradition of excellence while creating new opportunities for our student-athletes, coaches, and campuses."
