The
Point Loma Sea Liions had a baseball season for the ages and so did
Biola's James Whitman.
One of the results of that was a major rewrite of the Pacific West Conference baseball record books. You can check out all of those updates (in bold face)
here.
Point Loma won the PacWest regular season and conference tournament titles, captured sub-regional and regional championships and advanced to the NCAA National Championships. Whitman, now a three-time All-PacWest selection and this year's Player of the Year, set two new batting records during his epic season.
Here is a look at some of the new record book rewrites.
*Whitman hit .439 in 2026, had a .601 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .930. The on-base and slugging marks are the most in league history by a wide margin. The .439 batting average is second in PacWest history.
*Point Loma, under Coach of the Year
Justin James, won their fourth PacWest title, the most in conference history. Their 299 conference wins is also the most in league records.
*The Sea Lions' 50 wins is second most in conference history, only behind the 51 victories they had in 2022 when they reached the national championship series. They got to 50 victories with a lot of offense, including a PacWest record for most runs scored (559), most hits (681) and most walks (296).
*Point Loma had three pitchers with double digit win totals, a first in the conference record books.
Derek Silva had 11 and
Vaughn Neckar and
Devin Norton had 10.
*Individually, PLNU's
Josiah Rodriguez set a new single season mark with 97 hits, while teammate
Tristan Moore had 92 (third). Moore had 77 RBI, tied for first all-time.
*
Jessup hit 88 home runs this year, sixth highest in PacWest history.
*
Fresno Pacific had a slick fielding percentage of .980, second highest. Point Loma's was .978, third on the all-time list.
*
Hawaii Pacific's Kan Taguchi hit .424, the fourth highest single season average in the record books.
