There are many adjectives that could be used to describe
Concordia baseball star
Wyatt Madison, who has been selected as the Pacific West Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
One dimensional is not one of them.
Madison, a standout hitter and pitcher for the Golden Eagles, who also carries a 4.0 grade point average in his major of Engineering, has been selected by the conference’s athletic directors for this prestigious award.
"I am so grateful to have received this award,” Madison said. “It's an honor to just have the opportunity to continue my athletic career while furthering my education, so to be recognized with an award like this is extremely humbling."
The junior’s baseball and academic awards have been piling up this spring. To qualify for this most recent award, he was also named the PacWest Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year a week ago, and he was also selected to the CSC (College Sports Communicators) Second Team Academic All-America® at the NCAA DII level. He is the first Concordia athlete to win that award.
On the field, the Los Alamitos native was a First Team All-West Region selection (D2CCA) and a First Team All-PacWest pick. On the mound, the left-hander went 5-1 with a 3.21 earned run average in PacWest play, and was 6-3 overall with 73 strikeouts in 67.1 innings pitched. He fanned 13 in one game against Westmont.
At the plate, he hit .277 with 10 home runs and 39 runs batted in. He had two of those home runs in one contest with six RBI against Vanguard, and he had two round trippers in the PacWest tournament. He started 55 of 56 games and helped lead the Golden Eagles to their best record in the Division II era.
It’s the second year in a row that Concordia has housed the PacWest Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, with track and field star
Dylan Fox winning the honor in 2025.
"My teammates and coaches help give me motivation to show up every day and enjoy the sport that I play,” he added. “My professors support me through all of the times that I have to miss class. And most importantly I'd say my parents have helped me along my journey and taught me the importance of working hard."
Madison was selected over a talented and smart crew of Scholar Athletes of the Year by Sport, including
Martin Fiala (Menlo soccer),
Jack Stark (Menlo golf),
Soeren Grandke (Azusa Pacific tennis),
Koki Hamada (Hawaii Hilo soccer),
Tevz Podlipnik (Fresno Pacific track and field),
Aaron Lakeman (Azusa Pacific cross country), and
Erik Howlin (Vanguard basketball).
