The Pacific West Conference internship program, in its sixth year, has provided college student-athletes who aspire to careers in college or professional sports a chance to test the waters and gain invaluable experience at the same time.

For staff members in the PacWest, the interns provide much needed help during the busiest times of the year—at PacWest Championships, as well as the weeks of lead up to those events.

Jumping into all that activity head first are 2026 Fall interns Jaycee Goldsmith and Ellexis Mingming. Goldsmith is a senior post on the Biola University basketball team while Mingming just finished her golf career at Dominican University of California. 

The process for selecting the interns for the Spring of 2027 will begin later this Fall.

Goldsmith is heading into her fourth season as a 6-foot-3 post for the Biola basketball team. She led the Eagles in rebounds and blocked shots last season and is a two-time All-PacWest Academic honoree. Originally from Spokane, Wash., she interned with the Spokane Indians minor league baseball team this past summer.

"I’m so excited that I’ll be joining the PacWest Conference as a Championships/Communications Intern,” Goldsmith said. “This opportunity means a lot to me because I’ve spent the past three years competing in the PacWest as a Biola student-athlete, and now I get to experience the conference from a completely different perspective. I’m so grateful for the chance to learn, grow, and be more involved in a conference that has been such a big part of my college experience. I can’t wait to see what’s ahead!” 

Mingming wrapped up an outstanding golf career this past spring at Dominican. In 2025, her final round of 71 vaulted her into a tie for second place at the Pacific West Conference Championships, and she went on to place 38^th at the NCAA West Regionals. She began her career at Hawai`i Pacific, where she was a PacWest Scholar-Athlete and a WGCA All-American Scholar-Athlete. The Walnut Creek native currently works as an intern for the Bay Club Company.

"Joining the PacWest team as a fall intern perfectly bridges my background as a student-athlete with my career goals in the sports industry,” she said. “I am eager to contribute to championship operations and communications for the conference that shaped my collegiate career. I can't wait to work behind the scenes to help deliver an exceptional experience for PacWest student-athletes this season.”

In addition to working championship events, both Goldsmith and Mingming will join staff members Michale Morini and Russ Blunck weekly for meetings via zoom and they have assignments during the week to work on. They will also be a part of championship planning meetings with the host schools.

While previous interns have played a major role in helping the conference office put on championship events, the experience has also helped prepare them for their next steps in positions inside and outside of college athletics. Here is a look at "where are they now."

2022-23--Sam Prusynski, Dominican soccer--Working in the University of Miami athletic department as a Video Content Production Specialist.
2022-23--Abigail Laberge, Biola basketball--Now at Point Loma as the Intramural and Compliance Coordinator.
2023-24--Delanie Gearing, Azusa Pacific swimming and water polo. Now at UC San Diego as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications.
2023-24--Tucker Pellicci, Hawaii Pacific basketball. Currently with Bectran, Inc. as their Marketing Manager in Chicago.
2024-25--JJ Johnson, Vanguard basketball. Now at Vanguard as their Broadcast and Media Coordinator and Sports Information Assistant.
2024-25--Jalyssa Sanchez, Concordia volleyball. Currently with the Los Angeles Chargers in Game Day Communications.
2024-25--Ashana Hinds, Academy of Art basketball. Working in communications for Gatorade, Women's Coaching Alliance and Wilson Sporting Goods.
2025-26—Grace Echelbarger, Azusa Pacific T&F and XC. – Now working on her Master of Business Administration and Master of Sport and Entertainment at the University of South Carolina. Also working as a Creative Media Graduate Assistant for Gamecock Athletics. 
2025-26—Luke Addington, Concordia water polo. Now works for the Anaheim Ducks in Inside Sales.
2025-26—Miranda Diaz, Chaminade softball. Currently an assistant softball coach at Cerritos College.
2025-26—Jason Riviello, Jessup baseball. Worked in the Jessup Sports Info Department this past summer while also getting his MBA.
