ANCHORAGE, Alaska – No. 5 California Baptist beat No. 8 Point Loma, 73-46, to advance to the NCAA Women’s Basketball West Regional championship game. In the fourth meeting between the two schools, including a matchup last weekend in the PacWest Championship semifinals, CBU’s long distance shooting was too much for PLNU, who was coming off the biggest win in program history.
Cal Baptist will face No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona in the regional final on Monday at 7:00 p.m. AKDT.
Four Lancers scored in double-figures and they made 12 three-pointers in the game.
Courtney Nelson and
Kamille Diaz each scored 14 points, with Diaz adding eight assists.
Darsha Burnside had 12 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks.
Roya Rustamazda had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Sea Lions, who ended their season at 20-12.
Three-straight three-pointers pushed CBU to a 17-4 lead to start the game.
Cassidy Mihalko hit a three in the left corner to push the lead past 20 points, 29-8, at the 7:46 mark. The Lancers made five of their first 10 shots from long range. Diaz hit another three at the halftime buzzer to put CBU ahead, 43-15. The Lancer lead reached its peak at 61-22 at 11:19 in the second half.
