Top Seeds Point Loma and Azusa Pacific Advance at Women's Championship

IRVINE, Calif. –  Both top seeds advance to the next round of the PacWest Championship Tournament.
 
Point Loma 88 – BYU-Hawaii 65

Third-seed Point Loma defeated sixth-seed BYU-Hawaii 88-65 to advance to the next round of the PacWest Championship Tournament. Point Loma scored 88 points to tie the most points in a regulation game in PacWest Championship history.
 
Point Loma was hot from the start shooting 64.7 percent from the field in the first half, setting a tournament record for most points scored in a half with 56. The Sea Lions were led by Madison West with 18 points, and Riley Abraham, who shot 100 percent and had 17 points. Jessica Escorza contributed nine points and nine rebounds.
 
The Seasiders chipped away at the lead the second half, but couldn’t quite catch up with the Sea Lions. BYU-Hawaii was led by Whitney Fieldsted, who had 19 points and seven rebounds, and Celeste Claw, who had 16 points, four rebounds, and eight assists.
 
Point Loma will take on two-seed California Baptist tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
 
Azusa Pacific 69 – Academy of Art 59

With two players with double-doubles, fourth-seed Azusa Pacific defeated fifth-seed Academy of Art, 69-59, to advance to the next round of the tournament.
 
From tip-off it was a tight game, but the Cougars pulled ahead in the last few minutes behind the double-doubles of Kelly Hardeman and Cydnie Jones. Hardeman ended the game with 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Jones had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Knights fought hard till the end though behind Jasmin Guinn who had a career-high and program record of 31 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals.
 
Azusa Pacific will play one-seed Hawai’i Pacific tomorrow at 1:45 p.m.
