It came down to the wire, but Cal Baptist was able to pull off the win against Point Loma, 73-71, and advance to the championship game.
Point Loma came out hot building a 10-point lead at half, but Cal Baptist went on a 17-2 run to start the second half to take a 48-43 lead. The Sea Lions battled back late in the half going on a 12-4 run to take the lead by one 60-59.
After a massive block in the corner by Rustamzada with seconds left in the game, the Lancers were able to get the ball back and Burnside took it in for the game-winning shot.
Cassidy Mihalko had a tournament-record breaking seven three-pointers and ended the game with 29 points. Also contributing to the win was
Darsha Burnside, who recorded a double-double with 20 points, 13 rebounds, and a tournament-record nine blocks.
Point Loma was led by
Jessica Escorza with 23 points,
Madison West with 15 points and eight rebounds, and
Roya Rustamzada, with 10 points, eight rebounds, five blocks, and five steals.
Cal Baptist will play Hawai’i Pacific in the championship game against tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.

One-seed Hawai’i Pacific won a hard-fought game against Azusa Pacific, 72-60, to advance to the championship game.
Azusa Pacific started slowly, but went on a 14-7 run to go ahead at the half, 36-35. At the 12:30 mark of the second half Hawai’i Pacific got hot and started their 30-12 run which would lift them over the Cougars. Big contributors to the Sharks win were
Kylie Huerta, who had 20 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists, as well as
Morganne Comstock, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Two Cougars also recorded double-doubles,
Cydnie Jones and
Kelly Hardeman both with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
