2016 All-PacWest Women's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. – The 2016 All-PacWest women’s soccer team and awards were announced on Wednesday, following a vote of the league’s coaches. Conference champion Azusa Pacific earned seven All-PacWest honors and three individual awards.
Darian McCloy (Dixie State) was named PacWest Player of the Year. The junior striker led the conference in goals (12) and shots (63), and was second in points (26). A two-time PacWest Player of the Week, she led the conference with five game-winning goals, including an overtime score against CBU in the season-finale. She registered a career-best seven points on three goals and an assist against Hawai’i Pacific. She is the first Dixie State women’s player to win an individual PacWest award.
Hayley Patterson (Azusa Pacific) was named PacWest Defender of the Year and
Sarah Klinkenberg (Azusa Pacific) was named PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year. The Cougars allowed the second-fewest goals in the conference (11) and surrendered just four goals in PacWest play with 10 shutouts. Klinkenberg led the PacWest with nine shutouts and ranked second in goals against average (.585). She allowed only two goals in conference play for a .188 GAA and had 32 saves and eight shutouts. Patterson started every game in the center of the APU defense, earning her third All-PacWest honor. She is the first APU player to win Defender of the Year.
Susan Whitney (Notre Dame de Namur) was named PacWest Freshman of the Year. She led the PacWest with 27 points on eight goals and 11 assists, ranking second and first in those categories, respectively. She led the region and ranked fifth in the nation in assists per game (0.55). She earned PacWest Player of the Week on Nov. 7, following a career-high five points on a goal and three assists against Hawai’i Pacific. She is the first NDNU player to win Freshman of the Year.
Sydney Eddy (BYU-Hawaii) was named PacWest Newcomer of the Year. The Ole Miss transfer led the Seasiders and ranked eighth in the PacWest with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. She netted a team-best three game-winning goals, all in PacWest play.
Jason Surrell (Azusa Pacific) was named PacWest Coach of the Year for the second time in the last four years. He led APU to its second conference title with a 9-1-3 conference record and a second-consecutive berth in the NCAA Championship.
APU and Point Loma each had seven All-PacWest selections, combining for seven first-team honors. Concordia six selections, followed by California Baptist with five and Notre Dame de Namur with four.
