RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The PacWest split two games to open the NCAA Baseball West Regional on Thursday. No. 2 Dixie State fell to No. 5 Cal State Monterey Bay, 6-3. No. 1 California Baptist shutout No. 6 Cal State East Bay, 14-0.
Dixie State meets East Bay in an elimination game on Friday at 11 a.m. CBU faces No. 4 Chico State at 3 p.m.
Dixie State built a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning with a pair of sacrifice flies, but Monterey Bay tied the score with a solo home run in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, a throwing error with two outs played two Monterey Bay runs and a single to left field put the Otters ahead, 6-3. The Blazers put a runner on second in each of its final two at-bats, but could not score.
Dylan File struck out eight in 7.0 innings.
CBU hit six home runs in a rout of East Bay.
Ryan Williams went 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI.
Tyson Miller threw six innings for the win and
Stephen Carabajal allowed three hits in 3.0 innings for the save.
