RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The PacWest was in action in all three games of the NCAA Baseball West Regional on Saturday. California Baptist lost its first game of the regional, but eliminated Dixie State to reach the regional final.
CBU met Cal Poly Pomona in the first game of the day in a matchup of 2-0 teams. CBU took a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning on a two-run home run by
Antonio Chavarria, but the Broncos answered with a three-run home run in the bottom half of the frame.
Bryce Macy’s third home run of the regional put the Lancers up a run in the top of the seventh. Three walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, and a single to right field tied the game again. CPP loaded the bases again in the 10
th inning and another bit-by-pitch won it for the Broncos.
Dixie State faced its second elimination game in a rematch with Cal State Monterey Bay. The Trailblazers jumped out to a 4- lead, started by
Sam Hall’s two-run double in the first. Four Dixie State relievers allowed one run in 4.2 innings, with
Tyler Burdett earning the win and
Spencer Greer picking up his ninth save.
The night concluded with Dixie State facing CBU in an elimination game. CBU took a 3-0 lead on another Chavarria home run and
Andrew Montoya double. Hall hit a two-run home run to cap a three-run third inning for Dixie State that tied the score. Macy answered with a two-run home run in the fourth inning and CBU scored three more in the fifth to stretch its lead to 8-4. Dixie State plate two runs in the sixth, but could not complete the comeback, falling to CBU, 8-6.
California Baptist meets Cal Poly Pomona in the regional final on Monday at 2 p.m. CBU needs to beat CPP twice to advance.
