CBU Eliminated in NCAA Baseball West Championship Round

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist suffered its second loss to Cal Poly Pomona on Monday, eliminating the Lancers from the NCAA Baseball West Regional. CPP scored five runs in the eighth inning to win the first game of the championship round, 7-6, and advance to the NCAA Championship for the second-consecutive season.
 
CBU scored five runs in the second inning, started by home runs from Antonio Chavarria and Ryan Williams. Andrew Montoya drove in another run with a single to center field in the sixth inning to put the Lancers ahead, 6-2. Starting pitcher Tyson Miller was lifted with one out in the seventh inning, allowing only two runs and striking out six in his second appearance of the regional.
 
Patrick Gonzales closed out the seventh with two strikeouts, but struggled in the eighth inning. Three Bronco singles loaded the bases with one out, and Jacob Bernardy drove a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall for a go-ahead grand slam.
 
The Lancers were retired in order to close the game. The PacWest champs ended their season with a record of 42-13, setting a program record for NCAA wins.
