Holy Names, Concordia Advance in NCAA Membership Process

NCAA Release

IRVINE, Calif. – Two PacWest schools advanced in the NCAA Division II Membership process, which was formally approved by the NCAA Management Council on Tuesday. Holy Names University became an active NCAA Division II member, making the Hawks eligible for NCAA Championship competition in 2016-17. Concordia University Irvine advanced to the third and final year of the membership process.

“We are extremely proud Holy Names and Concordia on taking the next steps in their Division II journeys,” said PacWest Commissioner Bob Hogue. “Their hard work and success throughout the membership process brought them both to these historic milestones. Holy Names is now the conference’s 13th active NCAA member, and we look forward to Concordia bringing that total to 14 in another year.”

Holy Names was one of four schools approved for active membership, bringing the total number of NCAA Division II programs to 310. Mississippi College (Gulf South Conference), Rogers State University (Heartland Conference) and Southern Wesleyan University (Conference Carolinas) were also moved to active status. The PacWest has had five programs become active members in the last four years.

Concordia advanced to its final year of the membership process, setting the Eagles up to achieve active status as early as 2017-18. CUI was one of six schools to reach the third provisional year, including West Region members Cal State San Marcos (CCAA) and Concordia University Portland (GNAC).
