HPU, APU Advance in PacWest Women's Basketball Championship

IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai’i Pacific and Azusa Pacific both won their quarterfinal matchups Thursday to advance in the PacWest Women’s Basketball Championship. No. 3 Hawaii Pacific will face No. 2 Point Loma in the semifinals on Friday at 12:30 p.m. No. 5 Azusa Pacific meets No. 1 California Baptist in the other semifinal at 5 p.m.
 
Hawaii Pacific 74 – Dominican 56

Hawaii Pacific defeated No. 6 Dominican, 74-56, to open women’s play in the quarterfinals. VeAnne Navarro led the Sharks with 14 points. Gabriella Fotu had 13 points and was key on defense, grabbing six rebounds and providing five assists, three blocks and two steals. Jessi Reeves had 11 points and grabbed nine boards.
 
Dominican’s Sandra Ikeora notched a double-double with 34 points and 17 rebounds, the third-best scoring output in tournament history and tied for third-best in rebounds. She shot 13-for-23, went 8-14 from the free-throw line and had four steals.
 
After heading into the second quarter with a small lead at 23-20, the Sharks offense came alive and would control the rest of the game.
 
Azusa Pacific 95 –Notre Dame de Namur 60

The Cougars topped No. 4 Notre Dame de Namur, 95-60, in the final women’s quarterfinal game of the day. Abigail Goodsell led APU with 20 points, followed by Rachel Bozlee with 16 point, including five three-pointers, and two assists and two blocks. APU recorded the second-most field goals (27), three-pointers (12) and points (95) in a single tournament game, and the most assists (27). 
 
Marissa Caballero led the Argonauts with 20 points, shooting 10-for-12 from the free throw line. NDNU was 27-for-32 at the free throw line, the third-most makes in tournament history.
