Azusa Pacific Finishes Season In Regional Quarterfinals

AZUSA, Calif. -- For the second time in four years, the No. 8 seed upset the host in the first round of the NCAA Women's Basketball West Regional as Humboldt State took out No. 1 Azusa Pacific 66-60 in the Felix Event Center on Friday night.

The Lumberjacks opened the game with a 17-5 lead, and even though the Cougars erased that lead, Humboldt State went on to win, ending Azusa Pacific's season. The Lumberjacks will go on to play Alaska Anchorage in the semifinals. Azusa Pacific finished the season with a 27-5 record and a PacWest regular season title as co-champions.

Azusa Pacific led for 15 minutes of the game, but a 58-52 lead was met with a 14-2 run by the Jacks to finish the game. Humboldt State had two offenisve rebounds and then knocked down two free throws with a minute left in the game to put it out of reach.

The Cougars' offense was led by Gabrielle Kaiser with 14 points, making 5 of 6 field-goal attempts. The Lumberjacks were led by Isamar Conde with 22 points and 12 rebounds. She made 4 of 5 shots from beyond the arc to lead a 10-for-31 effort as a team.
