Azusa Pacific Wins Two At Home With 19 Runs

AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific won both of its games on Friday in the NCAA West Regional to move within one game of winning the sub-regional after beating Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal Poly Pomona. Point Loma lost its only game on Friday against UC San Diego, but will get another chance to face the Tritons on Saturday.

In the first game on Friday, Azusa Pacific trailed 2-1 when Cole Kleszcz hit a two-run home run to left field. With the home run, Kleszcz became the PacWest's single-season record holder for home runs with 23. He passed Azusa Pacific's Adrian Tovalin, who hit 22 in 2016. Casey Dykstra was on base for the home run and the next time at the plate, he hit a home run of his own as Azusa Pacific eliminated the No. 4 seeded Otters with a 4-3 win.

In the second game, Azusa Pacific's offense went off for 15 runs. Osvaldo Tovalin led the offense with eight RBIs in the victory, including a grand slam, during his three-home run performance. Nick Estrella earned the victory for his 10th of the season. The Cougars won 15-3 and now needs to win just one more game to advance to the NCAA West Region Championship Series.

The final game of the day was between cross-town opponents, UC San Diego and Point Loma, at the Tritons' baseball field in La Jolla, California. Colby Kaneshiro went 3 for 4 for the Sea Lions, but UC San Diego scored 11 runs in an 11-4 victory. The Sea Lions now need to win two games in a row against the Tritons in order to keep their season alive.
