Azusa Pacific Wins Third-Straight To Advance To Regional Final

AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific won its third game in two days at the NCAA West Regional tournament by beating Cal Poly Pomona 19-2 on Saturday at the Cougar Baseball Field to advance to the NCAA West Regional Championship Series against UC San Diego.

The Cougars hit five home runs in the victory and got eight shutout innings to close out the game and win the sub-regional. Justin Gomez went 4 for 5 in the victory with three RBIs as he finished a triple away from the cycle. Cole Kleszcz hit two home runs, including a grand slam in part of a nine-run sixth inning for the Cougars. Tido Robles also had five RBIs and hit a home run, going 3 for 5 with three runs. Declan Kearney allowed two runs in the top of the first inning, but didn't allow any runs after that as he earned his seventh win of the season.

Point Loma had its season come to an end in the sub-regional final in La Jolla, California, against UC San Diego. The Sea Lions won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 8-7, as Jerry Quemada got a pop out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. Travis Takata continued an outstanding tournament as he went 3 for 6 with two RBIs and two runs in the win. In the sub-regional final, UC San Diego came from behind for a 7-5 victory in order to advance to the NCAA West Regional Championship Series against Azusa Pacific.
