DEFENDER OF THE WEEK
Alisha Wilson, Academy of Art
F, Fr., 6-2 -- Pomona, Calif.
Wilson was three blocks away from a triple-double in Academy of Art’s road game against NCAA Division I San Jose State. Wilson had three blocks on the year before she made her first career start, when she recorded her third double-double of the season. The freshman tallied seven blocks, which is a new season high for PacWest athletes. She finished the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds on 8-of-10 shooting to go along with one steal. Then on Saturday, she added three more blocks in a win against Sonoma State to go along with her seven rebounds. Wilson now has 13 blocks on the season, which is the second most in the PacWest behind her teammate Joy Krupa. She is also averaging 10.7 rebounds per game, which also ranks second in the PacWest this season, while playing just 23 minutes per game so far in her freshman season. As a team, Academy of Art leads the conference in rebounds and blocks. The Urban Knights’ average of 7.0 blocks per game so far this year is on pace to break the program record of 152 total blocks.
