IRVINE, Calif. -- Three PacWest teams were listed as being under consideration for the NCAA Regional Tournament in Colorado by the NCAA’s selection committee.
Hawai`i Pacific, as the only undefeated team in the region, was among those eight teams. Two of the spots in the six-team tournament will be filled with automatic bids from the RMAC and PacWest, while the remaining teams will fight for the four at-large bids. Hawai`i Pacific, which leads all teams in RPI and ranks third in performance indicator. added two more wins against Chaminade to strengthen its resume.
Point Loma is also among the eight teams under consideration, having posted the second-best RPI in the region. The Sea Lions split their results against Biola last week, but still holds a one-game lead over Azusa Pacific in the Southern California Pod standings.
Concordia is the third PacWest team under consideration as the Eagles have posted the sixth-best RPI in the region and has won three games against nationally-ranked teams this season.
Azusa Pacific has the fifth-best RPI in the region and added wins against Fresno Pacific and Concordia to its resume.
Academy of Art got its first win of the season, defeating Fresno Pacific, 67-66 on a game-winning basket by
Ladun Akako with 18 seconds left. The two teams will face each other again on Tuesday with the Sunbirds having a chance to clinch the NorCal Pod title with a win.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michaela VanderKlugt, Concordia
C, Sr., 6-1 -- Antioch, Calif.
Vanderklugt equaled her season high in scoring last week as the Eagles split their series against Azusa Pacific to finish the season series ahead, 3-1. In the first game, VanderKlugt had 29 points and nine rebounds, making 10 of 17 shots, including all four 3-point attempts. In the second game, she added 15 points and nine rebounds with two steals. VanderKlugt has scored in double figures in every game this year and is averaging 19.6 points and 8.4 rebounds.
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chanel Stuart, Academy of Art
G, Jr., 5-8 -- Elk Grove, Calif.
Stuart recorded a double-double in Academy of Art’s win against Fresno Pacific for the Urban Knights’ first win of the season. Stuart made 3 of 7 shots for 10 points to go along with her 12 rebounds, including six offensive rebounds. She also had one block for her fifth straight game with a block. The junior guard is now averaging 9.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game with four steals and three blocks in three games.

Ally Bates, Hawai`i Pacific
G, Jr., 5-9 -- Melbourne, Australia
Bates led Hawai`i Pacific in their 34th consecutive win, beating Chaminade for the fourth time this season. Bates scored 27 points, making 10 of 15 shots, including 3 of 7 from 3-point territory. The junior had a double-double adding 12 rebounds, including five on the offensive end of the floor. Bates made key contributions on the defensive end with two steals and two blocks, holding the Silverwords to just 37 points, which is the least points allowed by the Sharks this season and the second least allowed during the winning streak. Bates this season is averaging 16.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
