1,793 Student-Athletes Named To Academic All-PacWest Team

IRVINE, Calif. -- The 2021-22 Academic All-PacWest Team features 1,793 student-athletes from the PacWest's 15 sports and 11 member institutions with over 400 more student-athletes winning the honor this year than last year.

In order to earn a spot on the Academic All-PacWest team, a student-athlete must have completed at least two semesters with a 3.0 grade-point average or better and have competed in a sport during the 2021-22 season.

There are 81 student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA on this year's All-PacWest team, which is an increase of 17 from 64 last year. Among those with a 4.0 GPA are Jelani Watson-Gayle from Fresno Pacific and Cara Liggins from Point Loma, who are both graduate students, who were All-PacWest selections in basketball for their performances on the court.

Concordia women's track & field had the second-most selections last year, and this year is the team with the most representatives at 34. The Holy Names baseball team has the most honorees of any male team with 31.

As a school, Azusa Pacific leads the PacWest for the first time with 218 honorees. Concordia is just one behind with 217, while Biola had the third most at 206. Every one of the 11 PacWest member institutions had at least 100 honorees and each of the four affiliate members in tennis had at least six selections to the Academic All-PacWest Team.
