Point Loma handed Azusa Pacific its first loss, behind the play of Abigail Nua (Player of the Week) and Makenna Joyce (Defender of the Week). Chaminade went on the road and won three matches during the calendar week, including a 3-1 win over red hot Fresno Pacific to earn Team of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma's Abigail Nua, OH, Jr., 5-10, Lakewood Colo.
Point Loma's Abigail Nua hammered home 29 kills in six sets, a robust average of 4.8 per game to lead the Sea Lions to straight set wins over Azusa Pacific and Vanguard. Against the previously unbeaten Cougars, Nua had 15 kills, hit .333 and had 10 digs. Against the Lions, she put down balls at a .448 clip with 14 total kills. The junior outside hitter is the runaway PacWest leader in kills per set with 4.24, and this is her seventh all-time PacWest Player of the Week award, which is tied for third on the conference career list---Shih Teng Chen (BYU-Hawaii) is first with 13, Fabiane Seben (Hawai`i Hilo) is second with eight and Nua is now tied with APU's Julianne Miller with seven.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma's Makenna Joyce, L-S, Gr., 5-6, Chico, Calif.
Point Loma's Makenna Joyce takes the Defender of the Week award for the second straight week. She totaled 36 digs in wins over Azusa Pacific and Vanguard, averaging 6.0 digs per set. She had a consistent 18 digs in each match. That bumped her season average up to 4.46 digs per set, fourth best in the conference. Joyce, a former two-time all-conference player at St. Mary's, also had eight assists and a pair of service aces.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Chaminade Silverswords
The PacWest Team of the Week is
Chaminade, The Silverswords moved through Menlo, Jessup and Fresno Pacific this past week, and went 4-0 total against PacWest teams on this roadie. That included a win against the hot Sunbirds, even after dropping the first set, 25-23. As usual, the 'Swords were balanced statistically across the board, but maybe most impressively improved their overall mark to 13-4 and their conference record to 6-0, despite playing 13 of their first 17 matches on the road. Chaminade also won its 52nd consecutive match against a NorCal school,
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Hawai`i Hilo went 3-0 on the road last week, winning out over Academy of Art, Menlo and Jessup.
Taylor Tullo had 18 kills and hit .429 against the Urban Knights and had 39 total for the week. The Vulcans improved to 5-1 in PacWest play with the successful road trip...
