Familiar story this week as Chaminade and Point Loma both went 2-0 to remain on top of the PacWest standings. Concordia also won both matches, going five sets each with setter Kawehi Chang pushing the offense with 91 assists. Fresno Pacific had a good week in Hawaii, knocking off Hilo and taking Chaminade to five, with MaKenna Hughes keeping the ball in play with 75 digs.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Concordia's Kawehi Chang, S, Sr., 5-8, Peoria, Ariz.
Concordia's Kawehi Chang ran her team's offense to a pair of victories during two stressful five-set victories over Azusa Pacific and Dominican. On Wednesday against the Penguins, Chang helped the Golden Eagles rally back from a 2-1 deficit with 18 digs on the defensive side of the stat sheet and 36 assists on offense. Against the Cougars on Saturday, the Golden Eagles stormed back again from a set down for the 23-25, 25-23, 26-28, 25-23, 15-10 marathon triumph. This time Chang had 55 assists, giving her 91 for the week (9.1 per set) and she finished with 33 digs (3.3). The 55 touches against APU is the third highest in the PacWest this season, with Chang's total of 57 early in the season the top mark.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Fresno Pacific's MaKenna Hughes, DS-L, Sr., 5-3, Ripon, Calif.
Fresno Pacific's MaKenna Hughes kept the ball alive for Sunbirds during a 2-1 week in Hawaii. Hughes had 75 digs in the three matches (4.4 per set) as the Sunbirds took out Hawaii Pacific (3-2), Hawaii Hilo (3-1) and barely missed upsetting Chaminade (3-2). The senior defender had 31 digs against the Sharks, the fourth highest total in the PacWest this year. Her work helped Fresno Pacific, under first-year head coach
Kelsee Montagna, improve to 9-7 in conference play. That puts FPU in sixth place, but they are just percentage points away from third place. For Hughes, a three-year starter for the Sunbirds, the 31 digs was a career high.
CO-TEAM OF THE WEEK: Point Loma Sea Lions
Point Loma is the Co-Team of the Week after sweeping Vanguard and Dominican last week. The Sea Lions are off to a program-best 19-0 start and are 13-0 in the PacWest.
Abigail Nua paced the Sea Lions in both matches, posting 16 kills with a .333 hitting percentage against the Lions, along with eight digs.
Makenna Joyce led the defense with 18 digs. Against the Penguins, Nua had 11 more kills (.435 accuracy) and Joyce added 19 more digs.
Avery Alleman had eight total blocks. As a part of Point Loma's 19 straight victories, they have won nine of their last ten matches in straight 3-0 sets.
CO-TEAM OF THE WEEK: Chaminade Silverswords
Chaminade has a tougher route to two wins last week but they made it happen with a 3-2 win over Fresno Pacific and a 3-1 win over Jessup. Against the Sunbirds on Wednesday, the Silverswords trailed a set before storming back for the 25-19, 16-25, 23-25, 25-9, 15-11 win.
Mahala Ka`apuni had a career high17 kills and a .308 hitting percentage,
Grace Talpash had 47 assists and 14 digs and
Nanna Inoue added 22 digs to stave off the upset. Versus Jessup, the 'Swords dropped the first set before righting the ship.
Letizia Cammillucci had 13 kills and 19 digs, Inoue had 19 more pick-ups, Talpush dished out 43 assists and Ka`apuni punched down 12 kills. Chaminade is now 21-4 on the season and 14-0 in the PacWest.
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Point Loma's Anna Massari continues to climb the PacWest career lists, now with 389 total blocks (5th all-time) and 327 block assists (4th).
