Island Schools Top Leaderboard at PacWest Men's Championships

Vulcans and Sharks within a shot of each other while HPU's Krupp leads field by a shot over Hilo's Gomez

WAIMEA, Hawai`i--Three Hawai`i schools top the leaderboard after 18 holes at the 2024 Pacific West Conference Men's Golf Championships at the Mauna Lani Golf Course in the Waikoloa area of the Big Island. 

Defending champion Hawai`i Hilo holds a one-shot advantage over Hawai`i Pacific (309-310) after the First Round. There are two more days of 18 holes each to be played before a champion can be crowned.

Chasing the Vulcans and Sharks are Chaminade (320), Academy of Art (324), Westmont (327) and Dominican (333). 

Individually, HPU's Kyle Krupp shot an even-round 72 to sit on top of the leaderboard. Right behind Krupp is Hilo's Nicholas Gomez (73) and Chaminade's Kyle Stopp (74). One of the tournament favorites Shion Suzuki is fourth (76), with Hilo's Dylan Bercan and Academy of Art's Jack DeBeneditti tied for fifth after shooting 77's.
