PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Biola's Kendall Vandertuig, Sr., OH, 6-0, Tulare, Calif.
Biola's Kendall Vandertuig paced the Eagles to a pair of wins on Oahu, including an upset of previously PacWest unbeaten Chaminade. The senior outside hitter had 16 kills and 11 digs against the Silverswords, not only helping to hand the defending conference champions their first loss (5-1) but also snapping a 31-match conference winning streak owned by the Oahu powerhouse. Vandertuig hit .414 in that three-set sweep with three block assists, and then added 15 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Hawaii Pacific. It was the seventh double-double of the season for the fourth-year starter, who hit .323 on the week.

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo's Isabella Freeman, Soph., MB, 6-3, Lehi, Utah
Hawai`i Hilo's Isabella Freeman put up big numbers offensively and defensively to help the Vulcans roll to three wins last week. The Utah native hit .447 against the Cougars and .443 on the week and had just two blocking errors at the net. TEAM OF THE WEEK: Fresno Pacific Sunbirds
Fresno Pacific swept through another trio of teams last week, including fellow conference power Point Loma on Monday night in Fresno. The Sunbirds, now 15-0, stunned the No. 5 nationally ranked Sea Lions in four sets, 25-13, 25-14, 14-25, 25-21. The 'Birds had just one attack error in the first set to set the tone for the match (.440 hitting percentage) and relied on their typically balanced attack to win the non-conference match (the two will meet again in San Diego in the last regular season game of the season). FPU would go on to sweep Menlo at home (25-13, 25-15, 25-19) and then battled Jessup on the road in a closer match, but another sweep nonetheless (28-26, 25-20, 25-20). The win over the Warriors marked the tenth sweep of the season for Coach Kelsee Montagna's team, and the Sunbirds improved to 3-0 in the PacWest. Counting non-conference matches against PacWest teams, FPU is 9-0 on the season. Mikayla Weiss played a typical all-around role with a double-double against PLNU (31 assists/13 digs) and she had 10 kills and 10 digs against Menlo.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Chaminade's 31-match PacWest win streak finally came to a close with losses at home to Biola and Vanguard. The Silverswords, who went 20-0 in 2024 to win the PacWest unblemished, last lost a conference match on October 28, 2023 prior to their setback to Biola, 25-22, 25-22, 25-15 on Friday. That 31-match win streak is the third best in PacWest history behind BYU Hawaii (1998-2000) and Hawaii Pacific (1999-2001), both who had 33-match streaks...Chaminade freshman Maylynn Mitchell made the most of her first career start with 26 kills in the loss to Vanguard. That was the most for a Chaminade player in nearly 10 seasons, and she hit .429 in the process. The 26 kills is also the second highest total in the conference this year for a four-set match...Isabella Freeman (see above) had lots of help in Hawaii Hilo's win over Azusa Pacific. Setter Emerson Reinke had 64 assists against the Cougars, the highest total in the PacWest this season. Libero LC Nakagawa added 29 digs, the second highest total in the confernce in 2025...Concordia's Delaney Gregg had a PacWest leading nine blocks against Westmont...Chaminade's Tabby Allen had six service aces against Vanguard...With the unbalanced PacWest schedule, it's too early to make too much of the current conference standings, but your leaders are Point Loma at 4-0 (14-2 overall), Fresno Pacific 3-0 (15-0), Chaminade 5-1 (11-9), Biola 2-1 (11-5) and Hawaii Hilo 3-2 (13-7).

Thursday features Fresno Pacific taking its streak on the line to Azusa Pacific, and Friday's busy slate includes Jessup at Biola, FPU at Vanguard, Hilo at Chaminade, Dominican at Concordia and Point Loma at Westmont.
