INDIANAPOLIS--Point Loma is No. 6 and Azusa Pacific is slot behind them at No. 7 in the first NCAA West Region Women's Basketball ranking, announced today by the NCAA national office.
That puts both squads in a position where they can help their cause by winning out in the final week of the regular season and in next week's Pacific West Conference Championships, March 6-8 in San Rafael. The top five teams in the final ranking on March 9, along with the tournament champs from the PacWest, CCAA and GNAC, will qualify for the eight-team NCAA West Region Championships, March 14-17, at the site of the top seed.
The next NCAA poll will be released Wednesday (March 5), with the final selections announced on Sunday, March 9.
