PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Biola's Noah Ruiz, INF, Jr., 5-10, 170, R/R, San Diego
Biola's Noah Ruiz helped his Eagle team gain a split in their Cornerstone Cup series with Azusa Pacific last weekend. Ruiz went 7-for-18 (.389) and more impressively drove in 11 runs in the four-game series. He had a double, triple and home run amongst those seven hits. Ruiz hit the go-ahead 3-run triple to complete an 8-run eighth inning to beat APU in a thrilling 16-15 comeback win, and then hit the go-ahead 3-run HR in the top of the seventh to beat APU on Saturday. PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Concordia's Matthew Kaiser, RHP, Soph., 6-1, 185, Los Alamitos, Calif.
Concordia's Matthew Kaiser threw the first no-hitter in CUI's D2 history and just the second no-hitter period in the Golden Eagle record books. And he did so against the PacWest Conference leader Westmont, on the road. In his 7-inning, complete game outing, he fanned nine Warriors and walked three. He needed just 86 pitches to complete the gem, just his second complete game this season. He retired the first 12 batters he faced before giving up a walk in the fifth. He walked two in the sixth, but a double play erased the threat, and then the sophomore set the side down in order in the seventh. He had plenty of time to rest inbetween innings as the Golden Eagles put 17 runners across the plate in the 17-0 win. Kaiser is now 3-1 with a 3.90 ERA and has 44 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched.
