Sea Lions Hold Off Biola, 4-3

Point Loma wins first-ever PacWest women's tennis championship in an epic final vs. Biola. Antonio Barth clinches on court three, sending PLNU into celebration.

SURPRISE, Ariz.--In a match very worthy of a title bout, Point Loma held off charging Biola 4-3 for the 2025 Pacific West Conference women's tennis championship at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Center.

It is the first-ever PacWest women's title for the Sea Lions (18-4), who earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. Biola, also into the final for the first time, will sit with their 16-7 record and await the NCAA decision on an at-large berth.

The championship match featured an early Point Loma lead, a furious comeback by Biola, and five 3-set singles matches before the three hour and 45 minute match was completed.

Point Loma won the doubles point with quick victories by Arianna Audelo/Quin Brady on court one and and Antonio Barth/Alina Kupfer on court two. They then picked up the first singles win on court six with Anna Pallencaoe's 6-0, 6-2 win. Biola stayed close with the next victory, a three-setter on court one with Isabella Chavarria's 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Kupfer.

The Sea Lions then pulled to within one game of the match with Emely Valencia's 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 grind out win over Isabelle Karam. But Biola rallied back for another victory after being down a set, this time on court two with Kailee Mazzeo's 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 triumph over Audelo, making it 3-2 PLNU.

Biola kept alive with another marathon win on court four with Alessia Radu's three-setter over Brady, 7-6 (10-8), 1-6, 6-2. That left all eyes and both teams on court three, where Barth and Dafne Andres were embraced in the fifth three-set match of the day. Tied at 3-3, Barth won the final three games for the win, sending her team into celebration.

Pallencoe, who went 5-0 in her singles and doubles matches in the tournament, was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Biola's Alexandra Mann was selected by the coaches as the Sportsmanship Award winner.
