Cougars Make Florida Plans After 4-1 Win Over Eagles

Biola wins the doubles point but Azusa Pacific comes back with four straight set singles wins to book trip to NCAA's.

AZUSA, Calif.--Biola won the doubles point but host Azusa Pacific took care of the four singles points needed to secure a 4-1 NCAA West Region women's tennis win on Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 1-seeded Cougars advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships at Sanlando Park with the win over No. 4 Biola and will be one of 16 teams to battle for the national title, along with Point Loma, a winner yesterday over Hawaii Pacific.

The Cougars are into the last 16 for the sixth year in a row. Barry is the only other program in the nation that has also reached the final 16 in each of the last six seasons.

Despite the finish, it was a tough start for the Cougars. Biola won the doubles point with victories on court two behind Isabella Chavarria and Dafne Andres and on court one via Kailee Mazzeo and Alessia Radu, both by 6-3 scores.

Biola also won the first sets in singles on courts one and six, but APU settled in and took care of business from there. Stina Larsson picked up the first Cougar pont on court three (6-3, 6-1), followed by Katherine Nguyen on court four (6-1, 6-1), Julia Jordan on court two (6-2, 6-3) and Karola Suviste on court five (6-4, 6-1).

The Eagles finish 2025 with a 16-8 record and their second ever NCAA West Region appearance. APU is now 20-4.

The national championships will be held on May 20-24 in Altamonte Springs, Florida, at Sanlando Park. The 16 teams that qualified, which include Azusa Pacific and Point Loma from the West Region, will be seeded by the NCAA for a single-elimination tournament.
