Defending PacWest champion Westmont opened 2026 strong with three home wins over CSU San Bernardino. Point Loma also showed well with a 3-1 week at Chico State, with Derek Silva earning Pitcher of the Week honors for one of those wins. Menlo’s Matt Morrison hit .750 during a three-game series against CSU East Bay for Player of the Week.

Menlo’s
Matt Morrison went 9-for-13 (.750) over three games as Menlo won two of three from CSU East Bay. The senior first baseman had a pair of doubles, scored four times and drove in four runs. He went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two driven in including what would become the winning run during a 9-8 victory to start the series. Finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored in the second game. Closed out the weekend by going 2-for-4 with two more driven in, a double, and a run scored.

Point Loma’s
Derek Silva pitched a gem during Point Loma's 11-3 win over Chico State. The San Diego Mesa CC transfer picked up his first win in a Sea Lion uniform with six innings of work, three hits, one earned run one walk and he struck out six. In two outings this year, Silva has given up just one earned run in 11 innings of work.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Team of the Week is the
Westmont Warriors. The Warriors opened 2026 with a three-game sweep of visiting CSU San Bernardino, taking out the Coyotes 14-3, 8-7 and 9-7. Westmont showed a lot of offense in the trio of wins, with
Tanner Beltowski providing a big chunk of it with a 6-for-9 weekend. Beltkowski homered, hit a pair of doubles and drove in four. On the mound,
Josh Hickey picked up one of the wins in relief with 4.2 perfect innings , striking out six. In the 8-7 series finale,
Joseph Castillo, playing in his first collegiate game, drove in the winning run in walk-off style with a single to right.

THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: The front half of the week will be strangely quiet after a flurry of non-conference games over the past two weeks. But PacWest play begins on Friday-Saturday (Feb. 13-14) with the following four-game series—Hawaii Pacific at Point Loma, Chaminade at Concordia, Biola at Fresno Pacific, Hawaii Hilo at Menlo, Vanguard at Jessup and Westmont and Azusa Pacific will play a split home/away slate.
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Chaminade went 2-0, working around rain storms to take a pair from St. Martin’s.
Hawaii Pacific did the same but split with the Saints, while
Hawaii Hilo had one game scrubbed out in their series against Wayne State (Vulcans won one of four).
Chris Cody earned the Silverswords a win against St. Martin’s with six strong innings allowing two earned runs and he fanned six. HPU’s
Jacob Vanek earned a win in relief with some perfection, pitching four innings without giving up a hit while striking out four.
Tyler Arnold has the game-winning home run in the Sharks win.
Moosa Nonomiya picked up Hilo’s win on the mound by working through the first five innings without giving up a hit…
Fresno Pacific split four games with visiting Western Oregon.
Drew Perry earned one of the wins on the mound with six innings of four-hit work, allowing just one run.
Aaron Martinez hit .357 during the series and drove in five runs, while freshman
Zach Simmon struck out five straight batters in his collegiate debut…
Point Loma won three of four against CCAA power Chico State, with
Derek Silva pitching one gem (see above) and
Glen Higgins delivering another. Higgins pitched six innings and allowed just one run and five hits (no decision).
Vaughn Necker also got a win with a strong 6.2 innings and allowing just one run…
