Sea Lions Increase Hogue Cup Lead

Defending Hogue Commissioner's Cup champ Sea Lions add MBB title and second place finish in WBB.. Vanguard makes big jump.

Fall Hogue Cup leader Point Loma has increased their lead in the 2025-26 winter standings after successful basketball seasons.

The Sea Lions, defending Bob Hogue Commissioner’s Cup champs, won the men’s basketball title for 15 points and tied for second in women’s hoop for 12.5 points. Point Loma (13.50) led after the Fall portion of the schedule by three points but now have a 3.21 point lead over current runner-up Vanguard (10.29).

The PacWest Commissioner's Cup was established in 2007-08 to honor the athletic program with the best overall performance in that academic year. The competition is based upon the average finish in each PacWest sport. Each school's points are totaled and then divided by the number of PacWest athletic programs it offers, giving an overall average finish for the school.

With seven Fall and Winter sports in the books, eight spring sports still remain to be contested and tabulated.

Vanguard jumped from sixth place to second after winning the women’s basketball title and tying for fifth in men’s basketball. Fresno Pacific (9.93) remained in third, Concordia (9.57) moved from fifth to fourth, and Azusa Pacific moved from sixth to fifth (9.07) and Westmont (8.50) moved from eighth to sixth.

Regular-season standings are used for baseball, basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball, while the results of the conference championship tournaments in the sports of cross country, golf and tennis are used.

In June of 2023, the Commissioner's Cup was renamed the Bob Hogue Commissioner's Cup in honor of the longtime commissioner, who retired that spring.
