Concordia was very impressive during a 3-1 weekend as CSU San Bernardino’s tournament—which included a win over CCAA preseason fav Cal Poly Pomona. CUI freshman Livia Eyre had double-figure kill totals in each match to help lead the way. At a loaded tournament in Washington, Chaminade’s Kyra Pagud was a dig machine with 5.54 per set.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Concordia Golden Eagles                                                                           
Concordia is the Team of the Week after going 3-1 in San Bernardino against a tough CCAA and GNAC field. The Golden Eagles pulled off the upset against CCAA preseason favorite Cal Poly Pomona in the final match of the tournament, 3-1. They also swept CSU Los Angeles, picked third in the same poll, beat St. Martin’s (3-0) and fell to Seattle Pacific (3-1). The wins over the Coyotes and Golden Eagles were the first in program history for CUI, as they were a combined 0-9 against those two teams previously.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Concordia’s Livia Eyre, OH, Fr., 6-2, Provo, Utah                                    
Concordia’s Livia Eyre racked up double-digit kills in each of her first four games as a freshman Golden Eagle, helping CUI go 3-1 to open their campaign. Eyre placed a career-high 16 kills and hit .387 in Friday's win over CSU Los Angeles and had at least a dozen kills in CUI's three other matches. This included a team-best 13 kills in Concordia's first win over Cal Poly Pomona in program history. The true freshman also landed six blocks in the season opener against Saint Martin's. Eyre averaged 13.5 kills per match and 3.86 kills/set.

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Chaminade’s Kyra Pagud, DS/L, Sr., 5-2, Honolulu, Oahu            
Chaminade’s Kyra Pagud kept balls in play all weekend at a tournament full of title contenders at Central Washington University. The senior defender averaged 5.54 digs per set, and had an early-season PacWest high 33 against Western Washington. She added 20 against Simon Fraser and had 19 against CWU. The fourth-year Silversword had nine assists in the win over the GNAC preseason favorite Red Leafs.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Hawai`i Hilo went 3-1 at Fresno Pacific’s tournament, with their only loss coming to the host Sunbirds, ranked No. 11 in the AVCA preseason poll. The Vulcans began the tournament with three wins over other CCAA opponents UC Merced, Menlo and Stanislaus State. That bumped the Vulcans to 5-2 on the season, after going 2-1 against the Alaska schools the weekend previous in Hilo…Westmont’s Sierra McClure averaged 9.73 assists per set in San Bernardino and had 57 against CSU Los Angeles…Biola went 2-2 in Texas, sweeping Colorado Mesa and Mississippi College for their two wins…Dominican’s Alexis Schwartz was named to the Otter All-Tournament team at CSU Monterey Bay. Schwartz had 18 kills as the Penguins rallied from two sets down to a 3-2 win over the host Otters…In Ellensburg, PacWest preseason favorite Point Loma swept Western Washington, lost 3-0 to host Central and went five sets with GNAC favorite Simon Fraser before losing 3-2..
