2014 All-PacWest Men’s Soccer Teams Announced

HNU's Jaime Phillips named Player of the Year

IRVINE, Calif. – The 2014 All-PacWest Men’s Soccer teams and awards were announced by the conference office on Wednesday. PacWest champion Azusa Pacific led the way with seven All-PacWest members and two individual award winners. The teams and awards were selected by a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Holy Names junior Jaime Phillips was named PacWest Player of the Year after leading the conference in goals (21) and points (44) for the second-consecutive season. Phillips, who was the preseason pick for player of the year, is the first Hawk to win a postseason award in the PacWest.  He averaged better than two points per game and had six multi-goal performances.

APU junior Chris Brusenback was named PacWest Defender of the Year and Dave Blomquist was named PacWest Coach of the Year. The Cougars allowed the fewest goals in the conference (15) and had the highest scoring margin (+1.37) en route to their first conference title and NCAA Championship appearance. Brusenback started all 16 games for the APU defense.

BYU-Hawaii senior Chris Pineda was named PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year. The preseason pick lived up to the billing, ranking second in the conference in save percentage (.782) and fourth in goals-against average (1.241). His teammate, senior Jace Green, was named PacWest Newcomer of the Year. The BYU transfer ranked third in the PacWest with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. He had a seven-game point streak, leading the Seasiders to a 5-1-1 record.

California Baptist forward Aidan Apodaca was named PacWest Freshman of the Year, recording 15 points on seven goals and one assist. He led all PacWest freshman in goals and points.

Azusa Pacific had seven players earn All-PacWest honors, including Brusenback, sophomore Luke Ackermann and junior Carlos Garica-Partida on the first team. BYU-Hawaii, California Baptist and Notre Dame de Namur each garnered six; and Fresno Pacific and Hawai’i Pacific each had five.
