Cal Baptist and BYU-Hawaii Advance at Men's Championship

IRVINE, Calif. –  Both top seeds advance to the next round of the PacWest Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.

Third-seed California Baptist defeated sixth-seed Hawai’i Pacific, 99-84, to advance to the next round of the PacWest Championship Tournament. Cal Baptist scored 99 points to tie the most points in a regulation game in PacWest Championship history.
 
Cal Baptist’s, Gelaun Wheelwright had 28 points including eight three-pointers, both the second highest in tournament history, pulled through in the end. Also contributing to the Lancer’s win were Michael Smith who went 10-13 with 26 points, tying the record for most field goals in tournament history, and Taj Spencer who had 18 points. The Lancers made 15 three-pointers, tying the tournament team record.
 
The Sharks battled back early in the second half going on a 14-4 run. They were led by Justin Long who had 22 points, Colfax Nordquist, who had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Darry Jones Jr., also with 14 points. A huge contributor for the Sharks, Luke Hager, left the game early with an injury with 13 points and six rebounds.
 
Cal Baptist will take on two-seed Azusa Pacific tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
 
BYU-Hawaii 74 – Point Loma 49

BYU-Hawaii came out shooting, with a tournament-record 55.3 field goal percentage, lifting the fourth-seed Seasiders over fifth-seed Point Loma 74-49.
 
The Seasiders were led by Pablo Coro who had 16 points, as well as Luke Aston with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Jordan Stone with eight points, six rebounds, and four blocks.
 
Point Loma started with a hot hand, but fizzled out as the game went on shooting only 35.8 percent. The Sea Lions were led by Hayden Lescault who had 14 points, Judd Welfringer with eight points, and Zach Burnham with six rebounds.

BYU-Hawaii will play one-seed Dixie State tomorrow at 6:15 p.m.
