Baseball Weekly Awards – March 14

IRVINE, Calif. – This week’s PacWest Baseball Players of the Week are Stephen Lohr (California Baptist), Adrian Tovalin (Azusa Paciic), Isaiah Terrazas (Concordia) and Nathan Bennett (Point Loma). The awards are based on games played March 7-13.
 
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Stephen Lohr (CBU)
3B, Jr., Buena Park, Calif./Cypress
 
Lohr continued his hot hitting in CBU’s four-game sweep of Holy Names. He hit .579 (11-19) with four extra-base hits, eight RBI and eight runs scored. He had multiple hits in each game, including a 4-for-6 performance with a double and a home run in the first game. He has driven in a run in 14 of his last 15 games. Lohr leads the PacWest in batting average (.466), hits (41), doubles (13), runs (27) and on-base percentage (.530).
 
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Adrian Tovalin (Azusa Pacific)
1B/3B, So., San Diego, Calif./Otay Ranch
 
In APU’s final six games in Hawaii, Tovalin hit .591 (13-22) with seven RBI and seven runs scored. He hit a double and four home runs to give him a 1.182 slugging percentage. He had multiple hits in five games, including a 4-for-4 performance in the final game of the road swing against Hawai’i Pacific. Tovalin leads the PacWest in home runs (7) and is sixth in slugging percentage (.652).
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Isaiah Terrazas (Concordia)
RHP, Sr., Buena Park, Calif./Golden West College
 
Terrazas threw a complete game shutout in Concordia’s 3-0 win over Fresno Pacific. He scattered eight hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four. He retired the Sunbirds in order four times and only had two runners reach third base. Terrazas is fourth in the PacWest in ERA (1.80) and third in innings pitched (40.0).
 
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Nathan Bennett (Point Loma)
RHP, Jr., Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty HS
 
Bennett continued his impressive season with 7.1 scoreless innings on the week. He made a spot start against Hawai’i Hilo, the first of his career, and threw six scoreless innings for the win. He didn’t allow a runner past second base and gave up just three hits. In 17.2 innings pitched this season, mostly as a set-up man, Bennett has yet to allow a run.
